 As Days Go By

Episode Two
Missing You

Still Saturday

The Maze Family

Shelbie finished up the dinner dishes and looked at her dad.

"Can I go over to see Jorden?" she asked, non-chalant.

Shawn smiled at his daughter's lack of interest, but knew better.

"Heavens no," Caroline hissed.  "Do you realize it 7 O'clock.  It's late and it's not very lady like for you to go chasing over there throwing yourself at some boy."

"I'm not throwing myself at some boy.  It's Jorden, I've known him since I was born," Shelbie said, shocked at her Grandma's attitude.

"Well, it is late, I think tomorrow would be better," Shawn replied.

Shelbie couldn't believe them. "Fine," she said, and headed for her bedroom.

"She's too high strung," Caroline hissed.  "She acts a lot like her mother did."

"Don't start, mom.  Anna was a great woman that I loved very much.  I don't want to hear your mean comments," Shawn said, and started to walk away.

"Well, that's a fine way to treat your mother after I have allowed you to stay in my home," Caroline hissed.
Shawn ignored his mother and entered his bedroom.

The Hines Family

"You want me to sleep on the couch?!" Jorden said, angrily.
"Well, where did you think you was going to sleep?" Wendi asked.  "There are only two bedrooms.  Your dad and I get one."
"That's unfair!  Why should Saralyn get the other bedroom?" Jorden hissed.
"I'm not arguing.  It's getting late, here take these," Wendi said and handed Jorden a sheet and pillow, then she walked towards her new bedroom.

It had been a long day with arriving this morning, then unpacking and getting the house ready. She felt completely worn out.  She looked over at the dresser and wondered if she had unpacked her nightgown yet and couldn't remember, it had just been that kind of day.

At this point she didn't care about the nightgown, She laid down on the bed, turned on her side and quickly fell into a deep sleep.

Morgan walked into the bedroom and saw that Wendi had fell asleep on the bed.  She didn't even dress for bed.  He checked his watch and saw that it was only 7:30 pm. It was early, but he knew how Wendi felt.  It had been a long day.  He undressed quickly and got into bed.

It felt weird to be sleeping in his parents house and in their bed, even if Wendi and him had put new sheets on it.
However, he knew they couldn't bring their bed from Bridgeport and he knew they couldn't afford a new bed.  So, sleeping in his mother's bed was just going to have to do.
Unlike Wendi, Morgan found it hard to fall asleep.  Finally, he did.

The Roommates House  -  The Ladies
Next door to the Hines family on the right.

Sophia Ann Wynn looked out the window at the house next door to the left at Beth Hines home.  She had seen the new neighbors move in, but had hesitated going over when she saw how busy they were unpacking their car and settling into the house.

"What are you looking at?" a voice sounded behind her and she turned to see her half-sister, Natasha Hunter, entering the living room.

     "The new neighbors," Sophia said.

"Are there any cute guys?" Natasha asked, smiling.

"It's a couple with their teenage kids," Sophia said, matter-of-factly.

"Figures," Natasha said, and turned towards the kitchen.

"Hey, why are you all dressed up?" Sophia asked, noticing Natasha's very low cut, short, v-neck line black dress.

Natasha turned around and said, smiling as if she had won something over on her sister, "I have a date tonight with Avery Cooper."

"Avery Cooper, isn't he the son of Maximus Cooper?" Sophia asked.

"Yes, he is," Natasha said, smiling at herself.  She had finally made it big time landing a date with Avery.  He was the son of one of the riches men in town.
The cooper's owned many business.  However, they mostly made their money from stocks, and the river front.  Plus, it was rumored that they dealt in a few activities that wasn't on the good side, but Natasha didn't care.
Heck, she was no angel herself and she didn't care what they did just that they had money.

"Wow," Sophia said, impressed, but also stunned.  "How did you get the date?"

"What do you mean?" Natasha asked, slightly angry.

"You know what I mean.  He's super rich and lives in the Hillcrest area, while we live in a little neighborhood in Riverview.  You are not in his social class.  So, how did you even meet him?" Sophia asked.  She wasn't trying to be mean, but she just couldn't understand how all of this came about.
Yes, Natasha is a beautiful woman, but she was so far out of Avery Cooper's league.
And Natasha had a very different childhood than most people had.
In fact, neither girl grew up together and Sophia had went looking for Natasha about a year and a half ago.
Sophia had already lived in the house with her roommates, McKenna Morris, and Kerrigan Wayward.  She asked them if it would be ok for Natasha to move in.  The house has 4 bedrooms and the roommates thought it would be even extra help with the bills.
However, Natasha wasn't exactly what any of them thought she would be.

"Thanks," Natasha said, feeling a little hurt.
However, she was also a little proud.  Yes, she had landed a date with one of the sons of one of the riches families in town.
There are 3 families in Riverview who were super rich, The Cooper's, The Kincaid's, and the Appleton's.
The Appleton's were rich because they owned Appleton Computer Inc., and made a fortune off of their computers and software.
The Kincaid's made money off of their shipping trades along the river front, same as the Cooper's.
Riverview had a massive business for fishing and both families, The Cooper's and The Kincaid's took advantage of it.
Now, they weren't actually fishermen, but both families owned massive fishing ships that they paid someone else to go out and catch the fish, crabs, and lobsters.
Both families also owned restaurants lining the river front and sold their fish here and to other towns.  It was a vast and profitable business.
However, The Cooper's, and also The Kincaid's have been rumored to deal in other shipping trades.
Whether it was true or not, Natasha didn't know and didn't care.   All she knew was that Avery was a cooper and that he was super rich.

"I met him at his family restaurant," Natasha said, proud of herself.

"How?" Sophia asked, shocked.  "You have to have a reservation at least 6 months in advance to even eat there."

"I have my ways," Natasha replied, slyly.  Actually, she met him outside of the restaurant.  She pretended that she was waiting to met her date there, but he never showed up.
To make a long story short, Avery felt sorry for her and invited her inside to eat with him.  He told her, he ate there quite often, mostly after work he would stop by and eat.
Natasha had never ate in a place like that before, but she didn't stick out.  She acted like she belong in his life style.  She went out of her way to impress him and to blend in with him. He would never know that she wasn't rich or about her past.
They enjoyed their meal and each other for a long time in the restaurant.  Afterwards, he offered to drive her home, but she told him she had her car.
Then he asked her out on a date.  She was surprised and thrilled at the same time.
Tonight, she wanted everything to be perfect.

"Hello," Sophia said, bringing Natasha out of her thoughts.
     "What ways?" Sophia asked.

Natasha only smiled. "I'm going to be late," she said, and grabbed her purse and went out the door.
Sophia looked after her surprise, and shocked, and wondering how her sister had pulled that date off.
