Cora Helms

100 Baby Challenge

Chapter 18
Part Two

Cora arrived at Jared's party and noticed the house was full.  He must have invited everyone on the block.

She went straight upstairs to find Jared, but was shocked when she saw Thornton there.

She didn't even know Jared and Thornton were friends.

Thornton was pleased to see her and smiled at her.  He thought she looked amazing.

Great, Cora thought.  How was she going to woo Jared with Thornton there.

She had been hoping to get Jared aside and put on her charms, but with Thornton there that was now out of the question.  Maybe, she could at least talk to Jared and build up their friendship.

She walked back to the staircase and looked around the room.  There weren't a lot of people upstairs which meant they all had to be downstairs including Jared.

Conner was sitting at a desk reading and Thornton was on the sofa watching TV.  She noticed Thornton kept looking back at her.  He was expecting her to set down with him.

But she had other plans, she started down the stairs when she noticed Gobias Koffi coming up the stairs with a smile on his face.

Gobias Koffi stopped in front of her and told her she looked very beautiful this evening.

Cora flushed.  Her first compliment and it was by the middle age guy.

Yumi Sekemoto had walked up the stairs behind him and stopped when she heard Gobias give Cora the Compliment.  She muttered something about old men, then walked off.

Cora thanked him and started to head off, when he started talking to her.

Cora didn't want to be rude and listen for a little while, but she really wanted to talk to Jared.

Plus, Thornton kept looking over to her.   She could tell he was getting upset about her not coming to talk to him.

Maybe, she was being rude to Thornton, but after all wasn't he rude the other night when he had slept in another bed.

She figured she would never ask him to spend the night again, since it was like his third night doing that.

Cora listen to Gobias trying to think of a way to get away from him without being rude.

After all, it was Jared's party and she hadn't even seen him yet.

Just at that moment, Jared walked up the stairs.

He looked at Cora, then Gobias and said, "Gobias, give the rest of us guys a chance with Cora."

Cora was thankful to Jared for saving her from Gobias.  Gobias was a nice man and sweet, but she wasn't here for him.

Gobias blushed, then said good evening to Cora and walked off.

Jared stood in front of Cora, smiling and said, "You look great."

"Thanks," Cora blushed.   At that moment, she was taken with Jared.

Jared said, "I'm glad you could come."

"I am too.  You look great and it's a great party," she said.

"I've been thinking about you.   I had fun the other night.  Who knew pillow fighting could be so much fun."

Cora blushed.  She also had fun.  She had a great time with Jared.

She turned to see Thornton getting up from the sofa and heading their way.   She was sure he had heard their conversation.  She knew it must have hurt Thornton's feelings, but she didn't know what to say to him.

However, this wasn't the time or place to tell Thornton the truth.

She turned away.  She couldn't face Thornton at that moment.  It was just too painful.

Jared did turn to look at Thornton.  He knew Cora had some children with him, but they had all this time to be together and weren't.   He knew Thornton had commitment issues.  Thornton had his chance, now it was time to let someone else step in.

Thornton thought about saying something, but didn't.  After all, what kind of guest would he be to start a fight with the host.  Plus, he knew Jared, but it wasn't like they were the best of friends.

He also knew Cora was free.  He never could commit to her, even the one time she told him she loved him, he never said it back.

He just went on downstairs.  He couldn't stand to watch Cora flirt with another guy or another guy flirt with her.  Even though, he couldn't commit to Cora, he did have some feeling for her.

Jared watched Thornton disappear downstairs and then asked Cora, "So, what is the deal with you and Thornton.  You're not together with him are you?"

Cora replied, "No, as everyone knows we do have some kids together, but we are not actually together."

"Good," Jared replied, and smiled at her.

Cora smiled back.  Yes, good indeed.

Meanwhile, Thornton went downstairs and found a woman in one of the bedrooms.  He didn't know her name, but started talking to her anyway.

After some time, he decided to make his move.  He was feeling a little jilted by Cora when she ignored him, then the fact that Jared was complimenting her right in front of him didn't help at all.

He was pleased to have the woman flirt back with him.

However, she mentioned that she was married.  Thornton didn't seem taken aback by this information at all and continued to flirt with her.

Cora didn't know what was going on downstairs, the only person she cared about in this moment was Jared and trying to make a good impression on him.  She wanted him to like her.

Finally, it was late and the party was over.  Cora thanked Jared for a great party and left hoping that she made a friend with him.

She arrived home and went to checked on the kids.

Arye told her he was tired and went straight to bed.

She thanked him for babysitting.

She went to work on taken care of the toddlers, then cleaning up a puddle.  She was afraid to ask what it was.

She took some time to play with the toddlers.

They were such cute kids.

She put them to bed, then had some toast and jam.  She was straving and as usual no one ever served food at their parties.  If she ever had a party she would make sure her guests would eat.

She finished eating and realized how tired she was.  It had been a very long day indeed.

She worried though, even as she went to bed, if everything would work out alright.  She hoped it would and she hoped she could get Jared over in the next day or two.   She needed to get on with Baby # 6.

100 Baby Challenge

Chapter 18
Part One

Cora woke up this morning, taking care of toddlers first thing.

Arye helped out by cleaning up the dinning room and kitchen.

Arye started teaching Caleb how to walk, while Cora took care of her needs.

Arye was happy to have another boy in the house finally.  He had been surrounded by girls.

Cora came back and taught Crista to walk.  Cora was so grateful that Arye was such a big help around the house.

He hadn't really said anything else to her this morning, but hopefully with him helping out meant he did finally understand.

Arye had music in his blood and decided to take some time to practice the piano.

Bethany loved to fish.  It was in her blood and loved the fact that she could fish in the ocean.  How many people got to say that?

Cora loved the fact that they lived on the beach.  She always wanted to live on the beach.  It alone was one of her dreams come true.

However, on this beach they weren't allowed to swim in the ocean.  Every day, she could plainly see sharks out in the water.  It scared her some and she warned all the children to not step foot in the water.

She knew Bethany was fishing and thought it might be ok and she hoped Bethany didn't catch a shark!

She turned and noticed Brie talking with the paper boy.  She hoped it was just for friendship.  Heaven help her, if Brie might be boy crazy and at this age!

Arye went back into the nursery to spend some time with his little brother and to teach him to talk.

Cora came into the room and asked Arye if he would babysit the kids this evening.  She had a formal party to go to.

Arye didn't look at her, but said he would watch the kids.

Cora thanked him, then headed for her bedroom.

Cora thought about what she wanted to wear.  It was Jared Frio's party and she wanted to impress him.  She needed to get on with this challenge and she needed to woo Jared fast.

She changed into a long, deep blue, low cut dress and realized her hair didn't suit the outfit.

She didn't really change her hair much.  She just brushed it up and over to the side.  It was simple, but also went better with the dress.

She looked down at the red roses that Thornton had given her.  In some ways she felt like she was cheating on him.  She knew they were never really boyfriend/girlfriend, but she had been through 5 children with him.  She did have feeling for him.  She had even blurted out that she loved him.

However, she knew deep down that Thornton didn't feel the same kind of love for her or at least she didn't think he did.

Plus, the challenge stated that she had to have as many different fathers as possible.  The Challenge Company already complained about her having 5 children with Thornton.

Well, no matter her feelings or Thornton's, she had to move on whether she liked it or not.

She sat down to eat before she went, knowing sometimes just because someone throws a party doesn't mean they serve food.

She ate, then checked on the kids one last time, and then headed out.

She was feeling a little nervous.  She hoped Jared would like her.

Cora Helms

100 Baby Challenge

Chapter 17

The next morning, Cora took Arye shopping for new clothes before school.

Cora thought it strange that the ice cream truck was waiting behind the bus.  Did the ice cream man really think children should have ice cream this early in the morning?

Again, the kids were running late and missed the bus.  They were always late for the bus.  Cora blamed it on the fact that they had such a long walk to get to the bus.

( The kids always miss the bus, I can send them, but they act like they want to go, then the symbol for them to go disappears and they just stand there.  I click to send them to the bus every time but they wont go.  Finally, I just give up, wait for the bus to leave, then click on them to go to school and they do.  Now the bus will drop them off in the afternoons.  I don't know.  I guess it's because they don't have an actually driveway for one and the fact their home is actually a beach lot with only a walkway to their house.  I'm guessing. )

Cora spent the rest of the day taking care of toddlers and painting.

Arye came home first.  He had something on his mind and found his mom in the nursery.

Arye;  "Mom, I have something to ask you?"
Cora;  "What is it, Arye?"
Arye;  "Why are you and dad not together?"

This was a question Cora had wanted to avoid, but knew some day the kids would grow up to ask why.  Especially, when so many of them was going to have different fathers.

Cora;  "Well, Arye there is no easy way to say this.  So, here it is.  I am in a 100 Baby Challenge.  If I have 100 children by as many different fathers as possible, then we get a mansion of our dreams, cars, 1 million dollars, and a vacation."

Arye;  "What are you crazy mom?  Why on Earth would you agree to a challenge like this?  Money is not everything!"

Cora;  "But Arye you don't understand, before I had you I was jobless, broke, and homeless. I was living on the streets with nothing. I just had to do this challenge.  It wasn't just about the money.  It was the fact that I had nothing."

Arye;  "But that's still crazy mom.  You realize what they will call you in town?  You'll make our family look bad."

Cora;  "Arye, you don't understand.  This town is dying.  It's not just about the money.  The Challenge Company also needed to bring people into the town.  It is a small island all by itself.  No one ever comes here and it's hard to get too.   It's mostly made up of men and they needed someone to populate the town.  They knew I was broke and homeless and that I wanted a large family.  They thought I would be perfect for the challenge."

Arye;  "Don't you see mom, they are just using you."

Cora;  "They might be, Arye, but it is for a better life.  I could give you kids so much more or when I pass away give you all a much better home, money, and cars.  Of course, it's just this home and a million dollar home, but you kids could sell them and split the money.  I am just trying to make our lives better.  Please, try to understand?"

Arye;  "I will try mom."

Cora;  "Good, I just want you to know that even though I'm in this challenge.  I love all of you kids and any future children I might have.  I always wanted a huge family.  I love children.  I love you all so very much."

Arye;  "I know mom.  I love you too.  I will give it some thought and try to understand," then he walked out of the nursery and to his room.  He had to think about this.  It was a lot to take in.

Cora understood what Arye was thinking.  Hadn't she been thinking about these same things too.  How it would effect her, and her children, and the town?

Cora didn't have long to think when the doorbell rang.

It was Christopher Steel.  She was surprised to see him.  She had only met him once at the park and they really didn't have a lot of time to chat before she had to leave.  So, seeing him here was a shock.

But it also made Cora think that being the only single female in town was getting said about town.

She greeted him and talked to him for a little while before she invited him inside.

He talked to her for a little while making small talk.  He knew she had some children and wanted to know if she was engaged or married.

She told him she was neither.

Christopher Steel was quite foreward with her wanting to know all kinds of things about her.

Cora took this as a good sign and thought that maybe Christopher did know about her challenge, or he was just really wanting to have a good time with her.

She did go ahead and tell him she wanted more children, and he didn't seem put off by it.  In fact, he said he liked children too.

She asked him to pillow fight and he agreed.  He was having a great time and so was Cora.

Until, she hit him in the head, then he just became very angry.  He yelled at her and curled his fist into balls.

Cora didn't know if she should use him as a father or not.  If he was that hot headed over a pillow fight, what else might he do?

She asked him to leave.

Christopher still angry, but calming down realized that he might have made a mistake and tried to say he was sorry.

But Cora said it was late and he needed to go.

He finally left, leaving Cora with her thoughts.
Cora finally went to bed.  It had been a very long day indeed.
