Chapter Ten

Jasmine heard voices as she slowly open her eyes. The voices weren’t close, but she could make out Beau’s smooth voice and a…. woman’s voice. Wait, it sounded like two women, maybe three?
Jasmine rubbed her forehead, then slowly sat up and looked around the room. This wasn’t her apartment. She was lying in a bed in a large bedroom. It had nice furniture, but the room and the furniture were dark. It felt as if it was a man’s bedroom. She thought it must be Beau’s bedroom.

She could hear the voices, but couldn’t really make out what they were saying. She rose to her feet and slowly walked over to the door and put her ear against it.
She could definitely make out Beau’s voice and there were three other women talking to him. She still couldn’t make out their words, but none of them sounded happy. They were definitely arguing.
She listen for a little while trying hard to hear, but realized the door and walls were just too thick, unlike her paper thin walls at her apartment.
She wondered how she got here. She had been in her apartment talking to Beau when suddenly everything went black. Had Beau hit her and knocked her out? She felt around her head and realized she had no bumps or cuts. In fact, she felt fine, even wonderful, like she had the best night’s sleep ever.
She looked around the room and herself. She was still in her clothes and the bed was made. She had only been sleeping on top of the sheets. She felt scared. Had Beau kidnap her? Was he the Bridgeport killer and was he going to kill her now?
Maybe, she should yell out to those women for help, but what if he had captured them too? However, they didn’t sound helpless. They sounded quite angry and she did hear one of the women yell out, “It’s my home too,” that didn’t exactly sound like the women were hurt, or in trouble. Jasmine didn’t really know what to think about the women and Beau yelling, and arguing beyond the door.
Beau had said before that he had roommates. Where these women his roommates? Did they know Beau was a killer or was they part of it?

She walked quietly over to the window. Maybe, she could excape through the window. She looked out and suddenly her heart fell. She seem to be on a twenty story building with her being on the 20th floor. She backed up from the window and looked back at the door. She saw another door beside it and figured it was only the closet.
‘That won’t do me any good,’ she thought, ‘I could hide in there, but he would just find me. No, I’m just going to have to make a run for it when he opens the door and try getting out the front door. I might have to fight him at the elevator.'

At least she had been to his apartment before and knew the lay out of the entrance way and the hall outside. She doubted if she could get the elevator’s doors to open in time before he caught up to her. So, she would have to fight him and she knew she wasn’t strong enough for that.

She looked around the room and saw the lamp. ‘Alright,’ she thought, ‘it’s not exactly the best thing in the world, but it will have to do.’
She grabbed the lamp, unplugged it, discarded the shade, and held it so the bottom, heavier part of the lamp would be like a club. She walked over to the door and stood to one side of it, waiting.
Suddenly, she heard the women yell something then the front door slam. Jasmine steadied herself. She tried to focus. She was full of nerves and she was scared too. She be damn if he was going to kill her.
She saw the door knob to the bedroom slowly turn and she focus all of her energy into swinging the lamp for his head.
Then everything flew by, he entered the room looking towards the bed and smiling.
‘The jerk,’ she thought as she quickly swing the lamp, smacking him in the forehead.
She didn’t even look as she dropped the lamp and ran for the front door.

Suddenly, he appeared in front of her blocking her from the front door and she ran into his body. She was stunned at how fast he moved. His forehead was neither bruised, nor cut. She was shocked to see him unhurt. She knew she had struck him hard. She had swung with all her might and had heard the base crack again his forehead. In fact, she thought she had seriously hurt him.
He quickly grabbed her in his arms. He felt so sad that she would think the worst of him. It broke his heart to know that she was scared of him and didn’t trust him.
And he realize his ‘Charm’ had worn off on her. That in it’s self was unusual. His ‘Charm’ never wore off. He could keep his victims in bliss forever while he fed off of them. They would never be the wiser and he could even make them happy to be feeding him.
Jasmine felt his strong arms grab her and she began to struggle. She screamed and tried to kick his legs. She wanted to get free, but knew he was so much stronger than her. She keep struggling, and fighting for what seem like forever. She felt her strength wearing out as he only stood and held her. She finally looked up at him, and stared into his cloudy eyes.
Beau in that moment took the adventage and sent her calming thoughts. He told her that she was to weak to fight against him and to stop and that he only wanted to talk. He meant her no harm and that she was really safe with him. He wasn’t a killer and she wasn’t in any danger.
Beau suddenly felt Jasmine quit struggling and she fell against his chest. Her body was warm and he could still smell the lingering perfume on her neck.

“It’s ok, Jasmine,” he said, and slowly lead her to the living room to sit on the couch. “I only want to talk. You are fine. I’m not going to hurt you.”
Jasmine felt calm. She felt safe sitting here on the couch with him, but it also felt strange. Wasn’t she just scared a minute ago? Didn’t she feel like she had to run?
Beau noticed the confussion on her features and wondered how long his ‘Charm’ would last and knew he had to work quickly.

“I’m not a killer,” he began. “Barry lied to you. He wants me out of the way so he can have you to himself.”
Jasmine shook her head. “That doesn’t make sense. Why would he go to such an extreme with a lie? I think there would be easier lies than going that far?”
“Because, Barry is obsessive. He is obsess with you and I think he would say or do anything to have you. I think he is dangerous, because he only wants you, Jasmine,” Beau said.

“I don’t know,” Jasmine said, but also knew how Barry was around her. He already had showed signs of being needy and how about the day he came in and was looking all around her apartment. She had thought then he was very jealous and was trying to make sure she didn’t have any other guys around.
Beau could see Jasmine thinking about it and even saw her recognize some truth to his words.
“He has even threaten me. He told me to stay away from you,” Beau said, trying to emphasize the point. He wanted her to see Barry as the threat not him.
“Really?” Jasmine said, looking at Beau. Beau was so muscular, and strong. Barry was good looking, but he definitely didn’t have Beau’s muscles, or the build of Beau’s frame. If anything it would seem that Beau would threaten Barry and Barry would back off.

“Really,” Beau said, knowing what she was thinking. He could see it in her facial expression. “I know you think that’s crazy, but I’m telling you, he is that crazy for you!”
“Well,” Jasmine began, looking down at the floor and wondering about the truth of Barry’s obsession with her. "The only thing is for four days he hasn’t come around. Wouldn’t an obsess person be around every day?" she added.

Beau thought quickly. “Barry knew we had been seeing each other. He has been spying on you. He told me to stay away. I’m not lying,” Beau said, lying about talking to Barry. But the truth was, Beau knew Barry had been spying on Jasmine, he had seen Barry several times spying on Jasmine and on them together. Beau didn’t dare say it, but even he had spied several times on Jasmine.
Jasmine knew Barry had seen Beau and her together that’s how he knew Beau’s name when she said she had been seeing someone else. Jasmine shook her head and felt very confused. She wondered who was really lying and if both of them were.
Beau gently took Jasmine’s chin and raised it so she would look into his eyes. “I’m not lying Jasmine. Barry is insane and he would do anything to make you believe him. If you think about it, how would he know the police or FBI are watching me? If they really are do you really think they would tell a store clerk that they are watching a murderer? Why would they tell anyone who wasn’t actually part of the investigative team? They would be to scare of important information leaking out and ruining their chances of catching the bad guy!”

Beau saw the recognition in Jasmine features and knew he had won the argument. He knew that Jasmine saw the logic in his words.
Jasmine only shook her head. Yes, why would an investigative team tell Barry about their investigation of a murderer, even if Barry were friends with one or many of them.

“I’m so sorry,” Jasmine said. “I really did believe him. I don’t know why, because now that I think about it, it doesn’t make sense for the police, or FBI to tell Barry something like that. You’re right. I don’t know why I believe him so.”
“I think it is because you do like Barry and have feeling for him.” Beau didn’t want to say the words, but knew that Jasmine had to face the facts and he wanted Jasmine to realize that she couldn’t have them both. She was going to have to choose. Beau desperately wanted it to be him, but before she could completely be his, she would have to forget and lose her feeling for Barry.
Jasmine realized that it was true. She did have feeling for Barry and it was probably because of those feeling that she believe Barry. So, the question was, is Barry so obsess with her that he would do or say anything?  Apparently so!

Jasmine felt sad. She really did like Barry, but she also liked Beau. However, logically she did believe Barry’s lie that Beau was a murderer, meaning that maybe she really did want to be with Barry instead of Beau. Did she? Did she want Barry more than Beau?
Jasmine felt very confuse. Ok, so Barry lied and was obsess with her. She could never be with someone like that. He would always be jealous and always spying on her. It would never end well.
However, why did she believe Barry about Beau being a murderer? She knew it was because Beau was scaring her too. He was also moving way to fast and all of his talk about them being destine together really did make her think that Beau was obsess with her too. Which means wouldn’t Beau end up lying, and saying, and doing anything to keep her with him?
Plus, look how easy it had been for her to fall in bed with him. He spoke in his sweet, smoothing voice and she was suddenly his. How could she fall for him so easily?

Maybe, she was obsess with Beau and Barry? It made sense in a lot of ways. She never really dated when she was younger and she didn’t really hang out with a lot of guys. She spent most of her time studying and trying to make at least decent grades and after high school, she spent all of her time working trying to save enough money to move away from her home town. The truth of the matter was, she had never had two guys try so hard to be with her. It made her feel wanted and special, but she realize now it was wrong. She let her feelings get in the way instead of using her brain to see what was really going on.

“You’re right,” she finally said, looking at Beau. “I do have feeling for Barry that is why I believed him. But you must also realize that I believed him for a reason. I think we are moving way to fast and that maybe you are also obsess with me and that I was wrong to lead you both on. I didn’t mean too, but I think I used both of you. I never had two guys fight for my attention before. You both whispered sweet nothings into my ear and made it sound like the world. I just can’t do that. You both are playing a game and so was I. You both made me feel special and wanted and maybe you really do love me, but I don’t think I love you.”
Beau started to protest, but Jasmine cut him off.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t think I should see you again and I don’t want to see Barry again. This is just too hard,” Jasmine said, standing up.
“Wait,” Beau said, standing up too. “It’s not true. I am not playing a game with you. Maybe Barry is, but I’m not. You can’t tell me you don’t feel it. We are destine to be together. We feel it in our hearts and that isn’t a lie.”

“I’m sorry,” Jasmine said, then headed for the door. She walked out into the hall with Beau close behind her. She reached the elevator and pushed the button to open the door.
“Wait,” Beau said, again. “Jasmine, you can’t leave. This is wrong. We are suppose to be together. I love you and would do anything for you.”
She turned sharply to look at him. “Then it’s not real. You are just as obsess as Barry is and that is not right. It’s not really love. I don’t know why you are so obsess with us being destine to be together, but can’t you see the logic of your own words. You said them about Barry, but you’re just the same. Why would you believe such a thing about us being destine to be together?”
Beau wanted to confess to her. He wanted to tell her everything. He wanted her to understand his need for her and how he truly believe she was the chosen one, but he knew if he said any of it she would not understand and she would only think he was insane.
Jasmine took Beau’s silence as him reasoning with himself and she quickly got into the elevator when the door open.

Beau looked at her inside the elevator as she pushed the button. As the door close, he said, “I know it’s true. I feel it and so do you.”
Jasmine did feel it. She didn’t know how, but she did feel a bond with Beau, but it also scared her to death. In some ways, it felt so natural and in other ways it felt wrong. She couldn’t explain it. It was just mix feeling. However, she did have a longing to be with Beau and it scared her. She thought this is why she had believed Barry, because she was also trying to run away from her feelings about Beau. If Beau was out of sight, then he would also be out of mind and maybe she would forget about him.

She finally made it home to her apartment. Her suitcase was still setting on the dresser where she left it. She felt a sinking feeling deep within her. She had almost ran away with Barry. She had believed his lies and was going to just go away with him. Was Barry dangerous? If someone could make up such a big lie, what else was he capable of doing? Would he have ended up hurting her?

Jasmine spent the rest of the day thinking, and painting. She didn’t want to make to much noise knowing that Barry live right under her. She didn’t want him to know she was home. She had to think of what she was going to do and say when she did see him again. She didn’t want him to come around anymore. She had had it with both Barry, and Beau! From now on she wasn’t going to worry about them, or romance. She was going to get on with her life like she had plan to do when she first moved here. She was going to paint and worry about how she was going to make it, but she wouldn’t think about Beau, or Barry and soon she was going to try and move again. She didn’t want them to know where she would live next. If they were out of sight, they would be out of mind. And that would be great!

She finally dressed for bed and realize it was the first time since she moved here that she was going to bed before 9 O’clock in the evening.
She was worried about what she would say to Barry, but in a lot of ways she also felt relief. She would no longer have to put up with Beau, or Barry.
She regretted sleeping with Beau and wished she could take it back. Her first time shouldn’t have been so easy, and so meaningless. She felt silent tears fall from her eyes and knew she could never get back her virginity, but she also learned her lesson. Beau, and Barry were not the men she thought they were and they are not the men for her.
     And she finally fell asleep.
