Sunset: A Vampire Story Ch. 1

Sunset:

A Vampire Story

By

Jensjch2000

I know I didn't post Ch. 1 - 5 here first, but I had Chapter 1 - 5 on the Sims 3 website to begin with.  I've decided since they are coming out with a Sims 4 to just go ahead and repost them on my blog.  I don't want to lose my stories like I did on the Sims 2 website.  Since the Sims 2 website is no longer available.

Also, people might or might not notice, but I have rewrote Chapter One, not a lot, but enough to take out unnecessary talk and mentions of stuff that doesn't really effect the story as a whole.

I am also changing and adding a few conversations.

When I first started this story, I was just playing the Sims and had all these pictures.  I do tend to tell a story every time I play.  I don't always write the story down, but I find myself often telling a story in my head as I play.
So, the beginning chapters really just have a straight forward theme, but later it has developed into a different story with many plots.  I've kept my original ideal, but I've added to it.  Making it into something more magical, I hope.
Therefore, this is why I'm sort of rewriting the beginning chapters.  They will now make more sense, I hope. : )

Please note; that Sunset has several chapters that are rated PG and can be read by a younger audience.  However, the majority of the story is rated mostly PG-13 and even Mature
I intended Sunset to be for adults and adults only.

I hope you enjoy.

Ch. 1 - 1

Chapter One

Jasmine couldn’t believe it. She was finally in the big city of Bridgeport. She had waited a long time to get here, saving all the money she could for the last two years just to have enough to get an apartment. Plus, to have extra money for food, rent, and bills until she could find a job. Water and trash were included in with the rent,  however, everything else was going to be extra.
She gazed out the window of the taxi and couldn’t believe the sights. The buildings were huge, some were at least thirty stories tall. She had never seen buildings that tall before.
She was from a small town, Pleasant View, the tallest building there was the Court House and it was only three stories with a basement.

Ch. 1 - 2

Jasmine knew she was running away in a sense.  She was running away from her past and her present.  She was twenty-one years old and it had taken her over two years to save up enough money to move to Bridgeport.
She was running away from her life.  It had not been easy with her mom and stepdad.  They were not good parents at all.
In fact, she could even say they were down right mean and they never really seem to care about her.   She was the oldest out of two children.  Her younger half-sister is ten years younger than her and her parents seem to adore Tiffany.
Jasmine wasn't completely alone; she had her grandparents and she spent every second she could at their house. They were amazing, loving, and kind.  They loved Jasmine and Tiffany the same, but Jasmine knew that any time she wanted she could come and stay with them.  Every chance she could, she spent her weekends and every summer with them up until they passed away.
Jasmine was thirteen when they passed away from a car accident.  It was hard losing her mom's parents.  Her life was hard before their deaths, but it got worst with her parents after her grandparents accidental deaths.
She wasn't for sure, but she felt like her mom blamed her for her grandparents death.  But, Jasmine knew this had to be her over active, emotional imagination.

Ch. 1 - 3

Her mom was already remarried when her grandparents passed away, and had been with Larry Lauder for seven years.  Her parents always moved before from one town to another, but not extremely far from Dixie's parents, but with their death it got worst.
Her mom, Dixie, immediately sold her parents home and moved the family over five hundred miles away.
Jasmine was mad, but being a young teen she had no say.
However, the moving only got worst.  By the time Jasmine graduated high school, she had moved fifteen times.
Needless to say, Jasmine didn't do well in school.  She wasn't the worst student, but between moving constantly and always making and losing friends and her home life with abusive parents; Jasmine found herself to be a loner mostly.
She also discovered her love for arts and crafts.  She mostly painted.  By the time she graduated, she found she could paint quite well.

Ch. 1 - 4

So, Bridgeport seem like a nice place for her to live, and maybe sell some of her paintings.   Bridgeport was going to be different for her.  For starters it was over three hundred miles away from Pleasant View and Jasmine wasn't for sure if that wasn't far enough away from her parents.

Also, Bridgeport was famous.  It was full of vacationing celebrities.  All ranging from singers and bands to movie stars to any type of artist.

Everyone seem to love Bridgeport with it's busy city life, it's glamour, and it's night life, which was famous in it's own right.  There where hundreds of bars, clubs, and lounges that everyone could enjoy.

It was fairly close to Hollywood and the celebrities seem to like hanging out there for fun, to relax, and for romance.

Also, it had hundreds of jobs waiting for people.  No one had trouble finding a job in Bridgeport.

"Miss, we're here," the taxi driver said, turning to look at her.

Jasmine had flown to Bridgeport, then used a taxi to get to her new home.

Jasmine looked around the busy streets.  She handed the female driver the money, and then grabbed her purse and small duffle bag and stepped out of the cab.

Ch. 1 - 5

Jasmine looked around the streets.  They were so busy and full.  She had never seen so many vehicles and people in her whole life.  And noise; she didn't realize how much noise there would be in such a large city.  Noise from traffic, people, and businesses.  People rushed passed her, busy on their way to work, stores, and other places.  Vehicles moved loudly down the street; honking, blaring radios, or people just yelling out of them.
Jasmine realize that she might not be able to sleep so well at night.  She wasn't use to this kind of noise.  Most of the time, she lived in small towns and mostly out in the country.  Crickets and frogs were the loudest noise she had to deal with in the last few years.

Suddenly, a man pushed passed her, and quickly got into the taxi. The taxi sped away in a blur, and Jasmine was left trying to catch her balance.
She turned and slung the strap of her duffle bag over her shoulder and entered her apartment building.  She entered into a small lobby.  The building itself was twelve stories tall, but not as wide as some of the other surrounding apartment buildings.  She knew there were two sets of apartments on both sides of the buildings.
To her left and right were elevators. The manager had said that A and B apartments were on the left side, and C and D apartments were on the right side, and to use the elevators accordingly.
In front of her was sitting an elderly man behind a long desk with an aging computer. He looked up and smiled when she entered.
“May I help you, Miss,” he asked.
“I’m Jasmine Miller, the new tenant. I’m in apartment 12 B.”
“May I see your I.D. and your lease agreement,” he said, rising up from his chair behind the desk.
“Oh,” Jasmine said, rummaging through her purse for her lease agreement and I.D.  She handed him her papers, and showed him her I.D.
He looked at her I.D., then at her, then back at her I.D., he looked over her lease agreement and handed it back to her.
“Very well,” he said. He turned behind him to a wall full of lock boxes and searched for the one marked 12 B. He took out a key and handed it to her.
“Don’t lose it. It’s the only one to your apartment. If lost, it will cost you a hundred dollars to have a new lock put on your door. So don’t lose it,” he said.
“Wow, that’s a lot of money,” Jasmine exclaimed.
“Yes, it is,” he said, matter-of fact. “I hope you enjoy living here, Miss. You may go on up. You need to use the elevator to your left.”
“Thanks,” she said, putting her papers and I.D. away.
As the elevator came to her floor, she heard the elderly man behind her.
“Sorry, what did you say?” she asked, turning to look at him.
“Some advice miss, don’t go out after sunset. Plus, if you have any questions about the apartment just hit nine on your call box inside your apartment and it will send you straight to the lobby and to me, Ralph Moss. I’ll be here till 10 pm, then Jud Harrison will take over and be here till 6:30 am,” he said.

Just as she was about to open her mouth to ask why she shouldn’t go out after sunset, the elevator door open and a bunch of people walked into the lobby.
One man yelled out, “Hi Ralph, how is Edith?”
“She’s good, has a little touch of a cold, though.” Jasmine heard Ralph reply, as she entered into the elevator and the door closed.
The elevator lurched and speed it’s way up to the 12
th floor. Jasmine wasn’t for sure if she liked that. There was only one elevator in Pleasant View and it was at the Court House and she had only been on it once.

Ch. 1 - 6

Before she knew it, the elevator stopped and open it’s doors.
She unclenched the railing in the elevator and hurried out into a small hallway.
There were only two doors, and one was marked 12 A, and the other was marked 12 B. She went to the one marked 12 B and used the key to go in.

Ch. 1 - 7

It was a very small apartment, but it would work well for just her.  The apartment was done up nicely.  To her left was an open floor plan of the kitchen and small dinning area.  A door lead to the bathroom on this side. In front of her was the living room and to her right was the single bedroom. It didn’t have a lot in it, but she didn’t need a lot. It came fully furnished which was great for her, since she had nothing except her duffle bag full of her clothes, a few picture frames, and a couple of photo albums.
She did have her easel, her art supplies, her television, and several boxes sent to the apartment a week ago. The movers left most of the stuff sitting in the center of the room and around the sofa and chair.
She finished unpacking her duffle bag, then set about moving her easel to the corner where several windows were.  She assembled it quickly, then moved the television and set it into the television cabinet in front of the small sofa.  She unpacked her dishes next, and then unpacked the boxes marked bedroom and bathroom.

Ch. 1 - 8

Finally, she unpacked her art supply box and began to paint. She found painting relaxing.  It was one hobby that had saved her many days of heartache.  She would often take her easel with her and paint the woods behind her house or a beautiful sunset or even the animals around her house.  It was a way to get away.
She wasn’t the best painter in the world. She knew she would need more practice if she wanted to make it big and she did want to make it big.  That is one of the reasons she had chose to move to Bridgeport. She wanted to be a famous artist, and she knew if she could make it big in the famous city of Bridgeport, then one day she could be world wide.
She smiled at the thought. It had always been a dream of hers to become a famous artist. Even when her parents told her it was stupid and dumb and that she wouldn’t amount to anything, she kept believing in herself.
She didn’t dare listen to them. She went with her heart. And her grandma had always told her it was a great thing to have dreams. Dreams are what make a person focus and have goals in life.

Ch. 1 - 9

Suddenly, she heard a knock at the door. She wondered who it could be, since she didn’t exactly tell her parents where she was moving too. She had just saved up her money, and then when the time came she told them she was leaving.
In some ways, she saw relief on their faces. Even her mother said it was time for her to get out. Her mother did ask where she was going, but Jasmine only said that she didn’t know and as soon as she found out she would let them know. She figured she would call them later tonight to let her mom know she was alright.
The knock came again and Jasmine turned to answer the door.
In front of her stood two men.
“Hi,” they had said in union.
Jasmine hesitated for a moment, then the men said they were neighbors who lived on the floor below her. They had heard of the new tenant moving in and wanted to greet them.
One of the men said, “I didn’t know the new tenant would be so beautiful.”
And Jasmine cringed and even thought more about not letting them in.
She talked to them for at least half an hour, before one of the men asked if they could come in. They told her they knew her neighbor in 12 A, Addison Rush, and that they had lived in the building for the past two years.
Finally, a little hesitate, Jasmine let them in.

Ch. 1 - 10

She talked to both men for awhile, and learned a lot about them.

Ch. 1 -11

The first man was Mick Situp and he worked in the science career at the local science center. He had been working there for the last year and a half. He was also going to college to extend his science career.
Jasmine was impressed with the fact that he was going to college and working too. He said it was some times hard and he didn’t get a lot of free time.
Jasmine thought he was a good looking man, who was smart, serious, and friendly. He was African American, and had a very short hair cut. He dressed nice, and he looked to be around her age of 21 years old.

Ch. 1 - 12

The second man was Barry Tenderlove.  He told her he was a stocker for a local store and was trying to become an actor. So far he had only been in one commercial. It was a very small part he had said and it was about 6 months ago.
Barry was very funny, kind, and friendly. He was Caucasian, with a goat tee beard and mustache. He said he was 21 years old.
He was good looking and she could see him as an actor. She wondered if the men had girlfriends, then was embarrassed by the thought. She had just meet these men, how could she be thinking of romance when she hadn’t even explored the city yet?
'All in good time,' she thought to herself.   'There is plenty of time for love later. Now I need to focus on me.'

Ch. 1 - 13

The men asked about her life, but she really didn’t want to go into any great detail. She was trying to forget her past not bring it up to people she just met.
She told them she was from a small town that had nothing, and that she moved to the city to find work and to also, hopefully, become an artist. She would love to sell her painting and have a gallery of her work.
“Well,” said Barry, “you came to the right place.”
“Yes,” Mick said, “this would be the place to get famous at. How good are you?”
“Well, that’s the thing, I need to get better. However, I figured while I get better I could have a job in the mean time,” she replied.
“I think they are hiring at my store,” Barry said. He wouldn’t mind getting to know her better personally.
She was pretty with olive skin, dark brown long hair, and amazing blue eyes. He had never seen eyes that color before on anyone else.

Ch. 1 - 14

“Actually, I was thinking of getting a job at night. I could paint during the day and work at night. Plus, it’s a huge city, just think of all the people and sights I could take in at night. In fact, I’m going out tonight. I can’t wait to see this city. What I have seen so far looks amazing!”

Ch. 1 - 15

“No,” Barry yelled, “you can’t go out at night.”
Jasmine was taken aback by his outburst and she stepped back a little.
Mick quickly saw the surprise and fear in her blue eyes, and said, “What Barry means is that the city is very dangerous. It’s not safe for anyone to be out after dark. In fact, most people don’t go out after sunset. The only places open are the night clubs, bars, and lounges and even then you don’t see a lot of people in them.”

Ch. 1 - 16

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” Barry said. “It’s just that you shouldn’t be out after sunset. The city has become a dangerous place. Many people have disappeared and some have been found dead. You would be better to stay indoors at night. Trust me!”
“I see,” Jasmine said, disappointed. She had been waiting forever to get to Bridgeport and see all the sights and take in the local favor of the big city. She had been dreaming of it for the last two years.
And now it looked like that dream had been crushed.

Ch. 1 - 17

Seeing the disappointment in her features, Mick said, “You know there is a lot to do during the day. The city is full of museums that are open till 4 or 5. Most bars open at 2 p.m., I just wouldn’t stay out after 6 p.m., it could be bad for your health.”
“Well, I guess I could do a lot of stuff during the day. It’s a city full of things to do and I am sure I can’t see everything within a day, probably not even in a week. And first thing first, I need to find a job.”
“I’m sure you will be able to find a job here, like I said my job is hiring,” Barry said, smiling.
Jasmine smiled back, but was quite sure she didn’t want to work with Barry. He seemed nice, but she just met him, and she didn’t want some guy hanging around her when she was trying to focus on herself.
Maybe, later down the road it would be nice to go out on a date with him or Mick, but just not now.
“I’m getting hungry would you all like to stay and have some dinner with me? It will be salad,” she asked.
“I think that sounds great,” Barry said.
“Me too,” Mick said, “do you need any help?”
“No, I’m fine,” she said and walked to her small kitchen.
She thought a lot about what the two men had said about the city. Of course, she didn’t hear any news about the disappearances or murders from her small town that was over 300 miles away.
She really had looked forward to checking out the city during the day and the night. Besides could Bridgeport really be all that bad with all of the celebrities in it?

Ch. 1 - 18

Meanwhile, as Jasmine fixed the salad, Mick and Barry hang back by the door talking in low whispers.
“She can’t go out at night. I don’t know if she really understands how dangerous it is,” Barry said, glancing at Jasmine.
“Well, what can we do? It not like we can force her to stay inside. We barely know her and she’s a grown woman capable of making her own chooses,” Mick said.
“I know,” Barry said, “just that maybe we should stay late tonight.  Maybe, even come early in the morning and keep her company."
Mick shook his head. “I don’t think so, and like I said she barely knows us and I’m not going to look like a stalker to her. She will end up thinking we are the creeps.”
Barry frowned, “I guess you are right that does sound a bit much. I just hope she listens to our warnings.”
“Well, all we can do is hope so,” Mick replied, hoping that Jasmine did take them seriously.

      “It’s ready,” Jasmine said.
They walked over to the kitchen and she handed them each a plate.
“Sorry, I only have two chairs at the table. Someone will have to sat on the sofa,” she said.
“I’ll take the table,” Barry said, grabbing the plate and sitting down before Mick could say anything.
Jasmine thought this was a bit rude of Barry and gave Mick a glance.
But Mick just simply took his plate and sat down in the living room chair.
The apartment was small and the dining area and living room where close enough together that Mick could be included in their conversation.

Ch. 1 - 19

As they sat and ate, Barry asked lots of questions about Jasmine’s life.
She answered a few questions and tried to keep it short and sweet. After all, she just met these guys and she did think Barry was being a tad pushy.
In return, she asked questions about their lives. However, it seem Barry was more incline to talk.  And he didn't really say much about his life.  He seemed more interested in her.
Mick tried to get a few words in, but Barry seem to be hogging the show.
Jasmine was annoyed by Barry. She knew he was doing it, because he liked her. She could tell. It was the way he looked at her and the way he talked to her. He was interested in her.
Jasmine had dated some when she was younger. She had her first boyfriend when she was 16, but he was moving way to fast, and she had enough problems in her life without complicating it more. He wanted to move fast, but Jasmine only wanted to enjoy life.
However, Jasmine soon learned that most boys in her town were only after one thing. She eventually quit dating and concentrated more on painting and her grades.
However, she didn’t just set around either. She hung out with her friends, the few she had. She moved around so much that it was hard to keep friends.  A few close friends knew about her home life and knew Jasmine would rather be anywhere, than home.
Jasmine looked at Barry. He was nice looking, funny, and smart.
But as she kept reminding herself back then and even now, she had known quite a few girls in high school who had gotten pregnant. It changed their lives forever and 90 percent of those girls ended up being a single parent.
Barry was nice, but she needed to focus. Plus, she wasn’t for sure about him. She didn’t really like pushy men. Her parents had pushed her around enough, she didn’t need it from some one else. It took her a long time to realize that not all families were as hard and cruel as hers was.

Ch. 1 - 20       She knew that Barry could just end up being a friend and that she might just be reading too much into something before anything has even really began.
She knew she was getting ahead of herself, but she had always been that way; thinking and planning ahead. It’s what kept her going through years of emotional and physical abuse.

Ch. 1 - 21
“Are you alright?” Barry asked. He noticed that she had become quite. She had been looking at her plate for awhile now, and he wondered if it was something he had said.
“I’m fine,” she said, looking up at him and smiling.
“Good, I was afraid I was prying too much. I am sorry if I did,” he said.
She shook her head and replied, “No, you are fine. I was just thinking.”
“About what?” he asked, hoping to learn more.
“Nothing,” she laughed it off and added, “I just had high hopes coming to Bridgeport. You must think that I am silly for that.”
“Not at all, most people come to Bridgeport with high hopes. They are normally looking for something and even some come to get away from their past.”

Ch. 1 - 22

Jasmine looked up at him sharply. Did he know she was trying to get away from her past? He couldn’t have known that. No one did and she wasn’t going to tell anyone. Let the past die and be buried, this was her future in Bridgeport and it looked bright.
Barry had noticed the sharp look in her eyes and wondered if he had struck a cord with her.  He figured he had, but let it go.
He wanted to get to know her. She had these amazing blue eyes. Crystal clear. He had never seen eyes like that before in real life.
However, once he thought about it, he did know of an actress, Meg Foster, who had crystal clear blue eyes like that. She was in a few movies, but the two he remember the most was the 1988 'They Live,' and the 1989 movie, 'Leviathan', which also starred Peter Weller, the guy who played in the movies of Robocop.

“So, you really think the city is that dangerous at night?”
The question now took him by surprise since he had been lost in thought.
     “What?” he asked.
“So, do you really think the city is that dangerous at night?” she asked, again.
“Yes, I do,” he said, worried that maybe she didn’t take his warning serious enough the first time around. “It’s a dangerous place. It used to be great, even for a large city most people didn’t have to worry too much. But in the last 2 years it has gotten bad. It’s not just people disappearing, it’s also about people coming up dead. Not just a few, but at least 5 to 6 in a month. It really is dangerous. You should listen to me.”
She nodded her head in understanding. Maybe, she should listen. After all, didn’t the desk clerk say something about not going out after sunset.

Ch. 1 - 23

Mick stood up and placed his plate in the sink and said, “I hate to do this, but I really should go. I have a test to study for,”
“Oh, no problems. Thanks for coming by and it was nice meeting you,” Jasmine said.
“Yeah, hopefully I will see you again,” he said, smiling and walked out the door.
“Bye,” Jasmine said, holding the door open. She turned, expecting Barry to follow his friend, but he made no move to leave.
He stood by the television and smiled at her. “I really enjoyed dinner.”
“You’re welcome. It was nice meeting you. You say you live on the floor below me?”
“Yeah, in fact I am the apartment right under yours. So, what do you think of your place so far?”
“I think it is a little pricey, but it was cheaper than some of the other apartments I looked at and I am on a budget,” Jasmine said.

Ch. 1 - 24

He moved to stand in front of her and he shut the door.
“You know you have such beautiful eyes,” he said.
Jasmine tried to keep her cool. Surely this guy didn’t think that she was going to be that easy. She had just met him and she didn’t take kindly to pick up lines.
“I think it is late and it’s time for you to leave,” she said.
Barry suddenly looked embarrassed. “I’m sorry, you don’t think I think you and me are going to be …. um well, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean anything by it. I really do think you have pretty eyes.”
“I …. I am not with anyone right now, and I just moved to a new place and I just want to settle in first,” she said.

“No, I understand,” he said, “I just thought we might become friends. I know what it is like to move to a new city without any family or friends around. When I moved here, I had no one. Mick was my neighbor and my first friend. I just want you to know I’ve been there and done that, and if for any reason you need a friend, I will be here.  I hope we do become friends, Jasmine.  You look like you could use a friend.  I think everyone can use a friend every now and then.”
Jasmine smiled. “Thanks, I hope we do see each other around,” she said, then realized he might take that as an invitation to something else more than friends.
She really didn’t understand men. It seemed to her all the boys from her high school, for some odd reason, would take that as an invite to become more than just friends and she hoped Barry was a little more mature than that.
He smiled and said, “Well, we live in the same building, I think we will see each other again.”
Jasmine open the door again, “Goodnight,” she said.
“Goodnight,” he said, then walked over to the elevator.
She closed the door and turned to look at her new home.

Ch. 1 - 25

She walked to her easel and began to paint. She thought of all the people she had met today. It had been a long day. She had flew in an airplane, (for the first time), and took a taxi to get here, and then here she met some interesting people and learnt some interesting facts about the city.
She decided that tomorrow she was going to get a paper first thing in the morning. She wanted to see what the news could tell her about her new home city.
She wondered now if she had made the right move to come here. She wanted to start fresh and enjoy life.
But now, it seemed that the city was dangerous and maybe a mistake for her to come.

Ch. 1 - 26

She painted for several hours, then finally went to bed. It had been a long day.
And she wondered if coming to the city was the right thing to do.
Well at least tomorrow was a new day and maybe it would be a brighter day also.
She fell asleep, but from the faintly noises drifting up to her apartment from the street below, and from the new worries of the city, she really didn’t get a good night’s sleep.
It was filled with worry and a little dread.
She couldn’t wait for the next day to begin. Hopefully, tomorrow would be better. Hopefully.
