Chapter Thirteen

The next afternoon, Thornton came downstairs and found Arye eating salad.  Thornton didn't realize how tired he was and didn't realize how late he slept in.

 

The truth was he lived with Gobias Koffi, but it was in a one bedroom house.  Thornton had been sleeping on the sofa.  It was hard and not very comfortable.  There were some days he wished he could commit to Cora and the family.  It would be nice sleeping in a bed instead of on a sofa.  Plus, Gobias wasn't the easiest person to get along with.

But as Thornton talked with his son, and could hear the girls in the background crying, he knew he could never really take the family life.  It was just to noisy.

After he ate, he found Cora in the bathroom getting ready to take a shower.  He wanted to talk to her.  He wished he could tell her the truth that the only reason he wanted to spend the night last night was to sleep in an actually bed.

But he figured that wouldn't go over well.  So, he pretended that he wanted to sleep with her.  Not that he didn't enjoy himself, because he did, but afterwards he just wanted to sleep.  And sleeping in a bed without someone beside you tossing, or turning, or maybe even snoring was bliss.

He took her hands and whispered into her ear.  She was great and he was feeling a little flirty when suddenly it hit him.

Cora had moved in to give him a kiss, but suddenly Thornton backed away with his hands up.

Thornton;  "I'm sorry, hun, but I think you need a shower."

That was so very true.  Cora had come into the bathroom to bathe. It was Thornton who had interrupted her. 

So, while Cora showered, Thornton visited with his daughters.  He couldn't believe how big they were getting.  It seem just like yesterday they were babies. 

He played with each girl.  Telling them he loved them, but also knowing he couldn't fully commit to being a father full time.  It was hard work. 

Finally, Cora got out of the shower and they went into the bedroom and had a little fun.

Thornton got up soon after and checked himself over in the mirror.

Cora went to check on the girls.

Thornton came out and struted over to her. 

And gave her flowers.

Cora was thrilled.  She couldn't believe he was giving her flowers again. 

She took them and set them up on her dresser. 

And finished training Brie to walk. 

She told Thornton goodnight, but didn't ask him to stay.  She figured he wouldn't sleep with her anyway, so what was the point of asking him.

Thornton a little disappointed that Cora didn't ask him to stay, realized now sleeping in the other beds might not have been a good ideal. 

Cora finished teaching the twins, then went to her bedroom.  She got her first baby bump and knew she was pregnant again.

She watched kids TV for a little while, before she finally fell asleep.
